the kitchen
I'm not sure what
it is that I remember most
you arriving
home with bags from Marks and Spencers
the formica
table, so fashionable at the time
the smell of
washing on a winters day
or peeling
veges on the back step
this was a
room that I knew well
that didn't
change with the years
it was a place
where we would meet
at the beginning
and the end of everyday
to listen and
to talk and to feel loved
in the company
of The Archers
The Guardian
and the morning news
it is a room
I have not seen for many years
and is like
you a part of who I am
